Now I've only seen one of Richard Shepard's films – a documentary on John Cazale – so I'm not in a position to say how good or bad he is, but I probably would have liked this more if it was made by a film geek that never got past making amateur films. Seeing this masterpiece at an impressionable age set Shepard on the path to becoming a filmmaker (The Linguini Incident, The Matador, The Hunting Party, Dom Hemingway, I Knew… We may have come to our interest in or obsession with movies from a different direction or in a different era, but we can all identify with Shepard’s experiences in some way. The premise being that the movies are our life. I had similar feelings when I read Quentin’s book Cinema Speculation… Both tell very specific stories of growing up using almost exclusively the movies of our generation. But maybe all film nerds have the same origin story.
Short Film Reviews
Pratt said the film involved significantly more stunts than its predecessor. The estate worldfilmgeek.com set included Eli Mills's office, Dr. Wu's large underground laboratory, an underground dinosaur containment facility, separate bedrooms belonging to Benjamin and Maisie Lockwood, and a large library with dinosaur skeletons and artifacts. It was filmed through the night and involved helicopters, rain machines, and lightning simulators to depict a thunderstorm.

She prays for his safe return each Sunday in church along with her mother-in-law Morwen, played with equal warmth and menace by Academy Award-winner Marcia Gay Harden. Based on the 1964 Japanese film Onibaba, Kermani’s film tells of a spirit of vengeance born of blood and battle which takes the form of a mounted knight in black smoke. Writer/director Natasha Kermani (Abraham’s Boys, Imitation Girl) is back to the horror genre with her new thriller The Dreadful. In July 2025, The Hollywood Reporter ranked the film at number 13 on its list of the "25 Best Horror Movies of the 21st Century." Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the movie an average grade of "B–" on an A+ to F scale. It made a respective $6.9 million and $4.1 million in its third and fourth weekends, dropping out of the box office top ten in its fifth after adding $2 million.

It celebrates one of the greatest movies ever made by recognizing that “Psycho” became a pop object (it’s amazing that Warhol never silk-screened it). The film’s spectacular joke is that it played with all that 19th-century horror imagery (the Victorian house on the hill, the demon at large), only the monster was now us. Directed by Alexandre O. Philippe, who made the elegant and searching “Doc of the Dead,” “78/52” centers on an up-close analysis of the shower scene that’s at once delirious and definitive; the movie is also a cinematic meditation that features a wealth of terrific anecdotes about the creation of Hitchcock’s masterpiece. (I would argue that the only other movie since World War II that has attained that quality is “The Godfather.”) The special, ghoulish trap-door chic of “Psycho,” and the reason the film never gets old, is that it’s a movie we now compulsively watch ourselves watching.

With an estimated budget of $325–400 million, the film is one of the most expensive films ever made. Additional filming took place in Scotland, the Downtown Atlanta area, and New York City. Filming began in January 2017 at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayette County, Georgia, with a large cast consisting mostly of actors reprising their roles from previous MCU films, including Brolin as Thanos.
